Making money on the web - is that possible?

Google Search delivers more than 6 million results on the term "making money" as the mood takes. On top of that comes Adwords ads on the first page alone (with 100 results). So you would not be the first one who would like the idea: make real money without much effort.

In advance: When making money I do not mean 2 $ a month, but "correct" cash. So from 4-digit.

Offer or sell yourself:

If you can answer all the following with a clear yes, the chances of making big money online are reasonably good:

  • You are not a manufacturer (not even in the broadest sense), but act with something.
  • Everyone needs or wants this something - you know at least 30 people in person who would want something like that.
  • Everyone knows how it is called and how to find it.
  • You do not have to explain that something. Everyone understands what it is and does.
  • You never have to touch that something. It's not in your apartment, you do not put it in packages.
  • You do not know the manufacturer personally. You do not want to know him.
  • You do not have to worry about paying, someone will do it for you, whom you do not know personally.

For every answer you have to answer with "yes" or no, your chances are halved. And then you search the something on Google and look at the top right corner of the total results: 1-1000: Forget, 1001-10000: if the profit margin is high, 10000-100000: could go,> 100k: maybe still feasible,> 1 Mio: forget about other hobbies,> 10 Mio: forget the idea.

Partner Programs:

For affiliate programs, you can always answer yes to any of the above points. However, many people snack on the cake and you have to see how you get a few more crumbs.

The most common and probably one of the best affiliate programs is Google Adsense. It is simple, reasonably serious and yields relatively good returns; the question is not whether, but how much money you can earn.

Three ways lead to wealth:

  • Your website has many visitors
  • These often click on the ads
  • You get a lot per click.

Theoretically you can also collect a few Euros with "only" 500 visitors per day, if points 2 and 3 are correct. In practice, it will be a mix of all 3 factors.

The ideal page looks like this: It stands well in the ranks with highly competitive search terms, but contains no significant information on the topic: The visitors of the site may not find what they are looking for, otherwise they will not click on the ads.

So visitors can only come through search engines, because you hardly get any visitors for an "uninteresting" page via links from other sites. You have to push the page artificially, so buy links.

Well, there are not only terms such as "old age provision", "last minute" and - "make money on the Internet" ;-)

In less competitive terms, it is a bit easier, but also less lucrative: With "model railroad" you will be easier in the ranks and come and visitors on other pages. Of those, of course, whoever clicks on the ads, because just because a cheap offer lures. On the other hand, the providers themselves are easier to get into good positions and will therefore pay little per click; even if the profit margins are already low.

A few numbers about this:

The click-through rates (how many percent of visitors click on an ad) are usually between 1 and 3%, in forums significantly less. Provided of course, the ads are optimally placed. Your earnings per click is usually. between 10 and 30 cents if the theme of your site is not just instant loan and shoestring. That's an average of 0.01 * 0.10 USD = 0.1 cents (bad case) or 0.03 * 0.30 USD = 0.9 cents per visitor (good case).

In other words, you can earn between $ 1 and $ 9 per 1000 visitors, with the permanent trend nearing $ 3; that depends on the theme of your site. Now, take a look at your visitor statistics to gauge your future wealth:

Per 100 visitors a day, you can count on about 0.3 * 30 days = 9 dollars a month.

Since Google only pays out the check when $ 100 come together, you will not see it until one year, then you'll have to pay bank charges and, of course, the conversion to the euro.

You may argue that it does not depend on the number of visitors, but on the page impressions: Is not quite true: who clicks on an ad, leaves your page, no matter how many pages he has previously viewed. Only the click through rate (CTR) increases slightly.

Conclusion:

So if you have a "private" website; about your interests or a hobby, you will usually earn little money with it. With a little I mean: <10 $ a month. But the ads spoof your site and give it a dubious look: People think you're making a fortune at their expense.

In order to earn real money with Adsense, you will not subsequently stick ads on the pages, but knit the pages together with the topic all the way around Adsense.

If you have an ingenious idea right now: Do it in the back.
